Do you know anything about breakfast?

Persuasive Reading Analysis: Breakfast - by Angela Bartolome
WALHT: Analyse text to identify examples of ethos, pathos and logos.

Take another look at the persuasive piece of reading/ writing.
What strategies does the author use to try to persuade you?
Below are strategies writers often use for this form of writing.  Read through each
strategy and decide whether the author used that strategy by writing yes or no in the second column. If you write yes, then explain how the author used that strategy.

Persuasive strategy
Yes / No
How the author used it?
Claim – States the main
point or stance
Yes
The writer has stated the main point by saying, “Breakfast is a very important meal for students to have daily.” This sentence the writer has said is a very strong statement which I think captures the audience attention to have breakfast daily.
Big Names –  Mentions experts and
important people to support the argument
No

Logos – Uses logic, numbers, or
facts to support the argument
Yes
The writer has said “Without having breakfast or something to eat for the start of the day it’s most likely you’ll slack off and get tired easily.” But also states in the second paragraph that “also not having breakfast changes your mood.
     People who don’t eat breakfast
  • mood changes
  • causes diseases and sicknesses
  • makes you hungry
  • slack off and get tired easily
Pathos – Appeals to the audience’s emotions
Yes
In this article the writer has stated that “Not having breakfast changes your mood” and “The way you think.” It also says that “Without eating something for the start of the day it’s most likely you’ll slack off and get tired easily.” Reading these sentences tells the audience that not having breakfast can give you different kinds of moods.
Ethos – Tries to build trust and
credibility
No

Kairos – Builds a sense of urgency
for the cause
No

Research – Uses studies and
information to make the
argument seem more convincing;
this can be in the form of words,
graphs, tables, or illustrations
No

Why does our heart beat?

When you run and then stop, you can feel your heart pumping.

We are lucky to have hearts because our hearts is the thing that keeps us going on and keeps us alive. Our heart is what keeps us from being able to move. If you eat too much, your heart might stop beating. Then your heart might stop beating because it might be lined too much fat and that stops stops the blood going through to make the heart beat. When you run fast, you need more oxygen and thats why your heart beats because your brain send a message to the heart for it to beat faster. Every heart beat is the sound of the heart pumping to push the blood around the body.

The heart pumps oxygen-rich blood through tiny tubes that circulates  to every part of the body. The system is called the circulatory system. Blood has four main componenstred blood cells, white blood cells, liquid and plasma.
After blood is pushed to all parts of the body, it is then pushed back again. (It takes less than a minute for blood to go  around the  body.)

Blood runs through the veins and into the heart to make it pump. If you cut your veins by accident on accident and the blood stops flowing to your heart then your heart will stop pumping. If you remove your heart, you will die. Also if you hold your breath for to long then you might die of faint. If you are in a deep pool and you drown, you will die because of the lack of oxygen to the heart.
Our hearts are important because if you don’t have one then you will not be alive. Our hearts keeps us moving and doing amazing things. The heart is like on the left side of the chest.  if you eat to much sugar. But if you eat too much sugar or salt by itself, you might die.
Our hearts are important because it is what keeps us alive and so we need to look after it.
