Have you ever been to a Manaiakalani film festival before?

Manaiakalani

Wow! On Wednesday 12th of November St. Patrick’s school and the other schools went to the Manaiakalani film festival. It was really fun. I think I can remember some of the schools that came to the film festival,  there was Glenbrae school, Glen Innes school, Pt England of course there was us St. Patrick’s school.

Some of the videos were very funny,  My favourite one was the ‘Hunger games’. It had a song that relates to the video and it was really good. Here is the link to the ‘Hunger games’ movie from Tamaki College if you want to watch it: Hunger games

My second favourite  is Room 8’s movie.  It was about a boy named Johnnie and his weird neighbour. If you want to watch their video, then click on following link:
Room 6 (my class) also made a video, it was about bees and a dinosaur who tried to attack the beehive. Do you know why the Dinosaur was attacking the beehive?

If you think that it sounds interesting, click on the link below to watch our video ‘Buzzing together’. It may be short but we put in  a lot of effort. You have to scroll down to see it. Before you go click on the link feel, free to check out our blogs and St. Patrick’s  blog: Buzzing together!

I hope you enjoyed all 3 videos from the Manaiakalani Film Festival,  there were lots of videos that we watched at the cinema,  but I have only shared three with you. Why does our heart beat?

When you run and then stop, you can feel your heart pumping.

We are lucky to have hearts because our hearts is the thing that keeps us going on and keeps us alive. Our heart is what keeps us from being able to move. If you eat too much, your heart might stop beating. Then your heart might stop beating because it might be lined too much fat and that stops stops the blood going through to make the heart beat. When you run fast, you need more oxygen and thats why your heart beats because your brain send a message to the heart for it to beat faster. Every heart beat is the sound of the heart pumping to push the blood around the body.

The heart pumps oxygen-rich blood through tiny tubes that circulates  to every part of the body. The system is called the circulatory system. Blood has four main componenstred blood cells, white blood cells, liquid and plasma.
After blood is pushed to all parts of the body, it is then pushed back again. (It takes less than a minute for blood to go  around the  body.)

Blood runs through the veins and into the heart to make it pump. If you cut your veins by accident on accident and the blood stops flowing to your heart then your heart will stop pumping. If you remove your heart, you will die. Also if you hold your breath for to long then you might die of faint. If you are in a deep pool and you drown, you will die because of the lack of oxygen to the heart.
Our hearts are important because if you don’t have one then you will not be alive. Our hearts keeps us moving and doing amazing things. The heart is like on the left side of the chest.  if you eat to much sugar. But if you eat too much sugar or salt by itself, you might die.
Our hearts are important because it is what keeps us alive and so we need to look after it.

The ancient Panmure cottage

The Panmure cottage was built back in the 19th century.
It was relocated because the cottage used to be where Mcdonalds. Mount Wellington Mcdonalds is now opposite of Saint Patricks School in Panmure.
The Panmure cottage has been here for generation after generation. We maintain the cottage because it has a lot of precious things in it. In the cottage, there is a room where they storage their tools and they also wash their laundry in there. There is also a fireplace with coal in it. The children had a chalkboard at the cottage that they use for their writing.

There are wonderful people that look after that cottage and their names are Josephine and Angela. In the cottage there were no toilets so they had to dig a hole. There is also a attic room but you don’t pull down the stairs because the stairs are part of the sructure of the house for you to walk up. In one of the bedrooms in the attic, there is a bed and a couple of rocking chairs inside it. The bedrooms were made for the people that used to live in the cottage. There was a volcanic rock bomb and a gold rock that was collected at that time.
There is a shaving pan so when the men woke up they can use a knife to shave their beard and clean it offin the shaving pan. In the kitchen  there is old furniture like the old typewriter, Old irons and an old dining table. They also had a bedpan that you can use at night time. They used to wear a kitchen gown when they wash their laundry. They also have rocking chairs for the women to knit something to use.

In the room where they storage all their tools there is a long saw to cut down trees. If you break something in that cottage you cannot replace that. All the furniture is not to be touched because they are all things from the past.

The cottage was rebuilt carefully so that it is safe for people to live in. The good things about is that cottage is that there is also a rail for you to use when walk up and down the stairs so that it is safe.

The Panmure cottage is very important because it is part of the history of Panmure and it symbolises the culture and the identity of the place.
