What did you do on the holiday?

Rotorua

One Saturday, during the holidays, my family and I went on a trip to Rotorua. It took a few hours to get there, but we were used to it. The hotel we mostly stay at when we go to Rotorua, is the Quality Inn.  The reason we always stay there is because we  really know the area around there. Once we had unpacked, we sat and chatted sharing our ideas about what we would do the next day.

When we woke the following morning, my mum suggested going to Skyline. This is an entertainment place in Rotorua. As I had been there before, I was eager to return to  my favourite activity -  the skyswing. Sitting  on a chair, cradled in a steel frame, designed to prevent falling out together with large adjustable safety buckles to wear around your waist, it helped me to feel a little more secure. Someone checked that I was buckled in correctly and following this, the large steel cable lifted me up high above the ground. A sudden jerk, let me know that I was at the top and my swing was about to begin. Suddenly I felt myself being swiftly propelled horizontally. A gust of wind continually battered my face and blew my hair around.  Once it slowed down I started to feel a little dizzy. Next stop, “The Luge’

This steep, curved raceway is so popular, that there was a long queue waiting, like me to face the challenge. The line was so long we had to wait for like around an hour.  Once it was my turn, I  sat on the little seat (which they call luge carts). When getting in I had to remember to be really careful because there is a handle in front of you when you sit down, and when you push it forward then you’ll quickly drive forward. Not being able to control this, often causes people to crash bump into someone else. I watched with great interest as others made this mistake and was determined not to do that myself. I also knew (from past experience) that If you pull the handle towards you quickly,  you  go flying.  Unfortunately,  there’s no seatbelt, that’s why you have to safely and slowly pull it towards you.

People (supervisors and others who had already had a turn)  warned us and the other people to be careful because if you’re going too fast and turn you’ll fall right off the luge cart and possibly you’d slide off  the track and into the trees, While I was riding on the luge cart I kept the warning in mind, so that I wouldn’t choose the same mistakes as the other people had. I was still on the track and when I was almost near the end, there was a tunnel to go through to reach the final point, but as I went through the tunnel, I saw another person riding as well, when we made it out of the tunnel I heard a stumble. I looked back and realised that the other person had fallen. I was going to try and turn back around to help her, but she had already gotten up herself so I just kept driving forward. When I reached the end of the track, I got off and sat on a chair which turns around and takes you back up to the beginning again.

At the top I saw my mum and dad waiting for my sister, brother and I. Just after I got up my brother and sister came up too. We all thought that we had, had was enough for today, so we went back to the hotel. On Monday we didn’t really feel like doing anything again so we came back to Auckland. I can’t wait until the next time we return to Rotorua.
